Origin and diffusion

A breed coming from Peloritani and Nebrodi mountains in The province of Messina. It is reared in the mountains of the provinces of Messina, Enna, Catania e Palermo (Sicily).

Morphological and economic characteristics

Height at the withers:
- Male: 72 cm
- Female: 67 cm
Weight:
- Male: 55 kg
- Female: 38 kg

The colour of the coat is very different (plain, pied or streaked, black, white, brown or red with various shades); long hair. It is mainly a dairy breed, milk is used for typical cheese.
